The first book in English about Japan’s modern master of fear and horror, The Films of Kiyoshi Kurosawa follows Kurosawa from his humble beginning in the pink film industry through his evolution into a masterful yakuza movie director and the celebrated filmmaker of Cure, Pulse, and Loft. Included are essays on 25 films, a descriptive filmography, and a sit-down interview. With Kurosawa’s Pulse recently remade in English, this stimulating guide couldn’t be better timed! A regular contributor to Asian Cult Cinema, Jerry White has written about everything from the history of the Ju-on (The Grudge) franchise to the current state of Taiwanese film. Mr. White has also written several award-winning short films, including Duel at Red Table and Misfortune Cookie. He received an MFA from Emerson College where he has taught on Asian film. |
